Congratulations on having bought a quality product from the STUBAI range. These instructions give you information on the use and function of your STUBAI pitons. Should you have further questions, please ask us or your supplier.

Mountaineering is an outdoor sport that requires more than the right equipment in the right conditions – experience, training and theoretical knowledge are also extremely important. We strongly encourage you to keep yourself up to date as much as you can through courses, books and training films. Regular practice of technique and knowledge of prevailing conditions are absolutely essential. Carelessness or misuse of your equipment can lead to serious injury or even death. We strongly urge you to read and digest the accompanying instructions.

STUBAI pitons have been manufactured for mountain use. Please be aware that they can only perform to their full safety and potential when they are correctly applied. An experienced climber can tell from the ’ring’ of the piton when hammering in whether or not the piton is held fast. On an actual pitch, the load of the piton will depend on its placing, how deeply it has been hammered in, and the nature of the rock itself. Pitons can be carefully removed by tapping on the side with a hammer, or by being levered out. STUBAI pitons can be used in temperatures from -30°C to +70°C.

Store and transport your STUBAI pitons in cool, dry conditions and shielded from direct light. Humid, acidic and salty atmospheres will reduce the lifespan of the product. Protect from knocks. Avoid contact with any chemicals of any kind.

General dirt can be removed with clean water (max.temp. 30°C) and a clean cloth. Wipe off with a dry cloth, and allow to dry in a dark well ventilated room, and shielded from direct heat.

Please check before every tour, that the piton is undamaged. Should there be any signs of weakness, please throw away immediately.Repairs or adjustments may only be made by STUBAI.

Type examination yielded results higher than required by EN 569. STUBAI pitons have been tested against Personal Safety Equipment (PSE) norms to EU guideline 89/686 for PSE and have been awarded the CE mark.

The lifespan of the product is strongly dependent on the manner and frequency of use, and cannot be exactly defined. As a rule, with regular usage, you can reckon with 5 years. With infrequent use, 10 years and evenmore is possible. With hard use and heavy wear, this time can be drastically reduced – in extreme cases to just one single use. STUBAI pitons should only be used if they are undamaged.

Embedded pitons lose strength and purchase over time. This process can be accelerated by falls, corrosion, repeated hammering etc. Already embedded pitons found in a rock face should be treated with extreme suspicion and caution.

The performance of your STUBAI piton can only be guaranteed if correctly used in conjunction with PSE-tested and CE-marked accessories.
